Designing tomorrow, today

Smart Columbus is the region’s civic innovation lab.

We address our community's most pressing problems by advancing what is new and next at the intersection of technology and community good.

Our vision is to make Columbus a national model for community-centered innovation.

Human-centered design approach

Align partners

We bring sectors together around shared goals.

Through cross-sector facilitation, we align needs, surface priorities, and build buy-in to move forward together

Co-design solutions

Residents help shape the solutions they need.

We partner with end users to define problems and co-create solutions that reflect real lived experience

Test, learn, scale

We move fast, and we stay grounded in learning.

Through a step-by-step approach, we prototype, pilot, and refine until ideas are ready for real-world impact

2020–2021

The pandemic exposes major community challenges: the digital divide, gaps in data infrastructure, and the need for sustained investment.

2022–today

With federal grant funding complete, Smart Columbus transitions into a community-centered innovation lab, leveraging technology to meet community needs and shape Columbus into the City of the Future.
