Homelessness White Paper

This white paper explores how predictive analytics could help Franklin County identify residents at risk of first-time homelessness before they lose housing.

Building on a successful model from Los Angeles, the Smart Columbus CIE team partnered with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective and Community Shelter Board to analyze over 30 million service records. The findings show a clear pattern: a sharp spike in service usage often precedes a housing crisis. With more data and collaboration, this approach could open the door to earlier, smarter interventions.
